PS5’s brand new controller, high-end graphics support, 4K resolution, and new angular design are what everyone was adoring. However, some users have reported that their PS5 keeps turning off randomly. This is a nightmare for any gamer.
In this article, we will discuss the things you should do if your PS5 automatically keeps turning off again and again.

6 Things You Should Do to Stop PS5 from Turning Off
Here are some of the reasons why your PS5 is turning off automatically. These solutions might not be valid for every PS5 user out there but I would strongly recommend you crosscheck each situation before taking extreme steps or contacting Sony to fix this issue.

1. Protect from Overheating
If the PS5’s internal temperature reaches a certain point, it will automatically shut down to prevent damage. This can happen if the console is placed in a poorly ventilated place or if the cooling fan is not working correctly. It can also overheat the whole system if PS5 is running for a very long time on hot summer days.
To fix this issue, it is advised to place the PS5 in a well-ventilated room and take frequent breaks after every 3-4 hours.
2. Check Power Supply
If the PS5 is connected to a loose plug, or cable and doesn’t get enough power required to keep the system on, PS5 will turn off unexpectedly. This issue can also arise if you are using a damaged cable extension instead of directly connecting the PS5 plug to the socket. Also, check if the power cable is tightly connected to the PS5 power port.
Make sure you crosscheck all the possibilities that might be causing this issue because of the power supply. Connect your PS5 directly to the power outlet instead of using any extension or adapter. Also, make sure that the power cable has no wear or tear that might be causing power issues.

3. Check for Hardware Malfunction
If there is a problem with the PS5’s hardware, such as a faulty component or damaged circuit board, it may turn off unexpectedly. The PS5’s hardware may be damaged due to physical impact, or exposure to heat, water or moisture. You may also notice unusual noises coming from the console.
To confirm if there is no hardware malfunctioning, you can check the PS5’s internal components, such as the cooling fan and circuit boards, for signs of damage or wear and tear. You should also check for any visible damage to the PS5’s exterior, such as cracks or dents.
Just for the sake of confirmation, you can also smell if there is any foul order caused by sparking in the internal component. If everything seems normal, disconnect the PS5 from the power socket and restart the PS5.

4. Update Firmware
Sometimes, the PS5 may shut down during a firmware update, especially if the update fails or encounters an error. If there are any pending firmware updates, you should update them as soon as possible. There might be some software issue that is bugging up the hardware and which is causing the PS5 turning off issue.
Sometimes PS5 doesn’t notify if there is a new software update available. So make sure you manually check out the Software updates section to see if there is any pending software update.
Go to Settings > System > Software Update > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software. You will clearly see if there is any system update available or not. In my case, it was available.
Next, PS5 will ask if you want to Update using the Internet or using USB. In most cases, a user selects to update using the Internet but if you have an updated file downloaded, you can update using a USB drive. Here you can download the firmware of PS5 directly from Sony.
Updating system software from the Internet is a super easy and smooth process. Wait until the process gets completed. Your PS5 will restart automatically once the update is completed. Also, do not turn off the PS5 while updating.
Once you update the PS5 firmware, it will automatically fix the PS5 getting the turning-off issue. If your PS5 still turning off, try other solutions mentioned below.

5. Turn off Rest Mode
Rest Mode can potentially cause the PS5 to turn off randomly. Rest Mode is a feature that allows the PS5 to enter a low-power state while still remaining connected to the internet and downloading updates or games in the background. The whole idea behind Rest Mode is to save power.
If that is the culprit, fortunately, you can disable Rest mode to resist the turning off issue on PS5. You can try turning off the feature by going to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and unchecking the boxes for Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS5 from Network. Hopefully, it will fix the PS5 turning-off issue.

6. Rebuild the PS5’s Database
Here is another thing you can do to fix this issue. To build the PS5 database, simply turn off the PS5 completely until the blue light fades out from the console. Now you need to turn on the PS5 in Safe Mode. To do that, press and hold the power button on the console until you listen to the second beep sound.
In safe mode, you will not be able to use the PS5’s controller wirelessly. You need to connect the PS5 controller using a USB Type-C cable.
Once done, you will see the option to rebuild the database. It will take a couple of minutes and it might fix the issue of the PS5 turning off.

If you have tried the solutions mentioned above and your PS5 still keeps turning off, it may be time to contact Sony for assistance. They can help diagnose and repair any hardware or software issues with your console. Obviously, we cannot take any extreme steps and I would not recommend repairing the PS5 on your own, unless you are an authorized engineer, because it can void the warranty and also cause bigger issues that might cost you more to fix.
