Qualcomm Snapdragon 845: Ready for ‘2018’s version of Smartphones’?

Every flagship smartphone in 2017 is equipped with Snapdragon’s 835 processor and we all witnessed the power of Android smartphones. The exponential growth in smartphone market is due to the high pace of technology we experience in a small packet. This is only possible because of the powerful chipset that runs the smartphone.

The year 2018 is coming and Qualcomm is all set to take the smartphones to the next level. With the announcement of Snapdragon 845, we can expect something really new in the year 2018, especially in Android Smartphone. Xiaomi already confirmed that it will be using Snapdragon 845 in their next flagship.





Here is what’s new in the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 Processor:

Improved Processing

The latest Snapdragon 845 has the glory of new Kyro 385 CPU and Adreno 630 GPU. The chip is based on Samsung’s 10nm LPP FinFet architecture which is 10% more powerful with 15% less power consumption. With that, we can expect better battery life in ‘2018’s Flagships’.

Talking about the new Adreno 630 Visual Processing Subsystem. Qualcomm promised that there would be 30% improved performance in the graphics and video rendering and reduction in the power consumption. For crispy and sharper 2018’s displays, Snapdragon 845 supports 2K x 2K resolutions of displays at up to 120 Hz. Get ready for beautiful, crispier and sharper big displays.

Camera & Multimedia Upgrades

Qualcomm’s latest Spectra 280 ISP image signal processor now has new video capture options including 480 FPS slow-motion video, 60 fps video recording at 16 MP. With new Spectra 280, there is an increase in the capability to capture better high dynamic range. Moreover, recording 4K videos at 60 fps is now possible with Snapdragon 845 Processor.



Charging and Bluetooth Upgrades

There is no such news about the new technology which can replace Fast Charging as of now. With Snapdragon 845 processor, it is now upgraded to Quick Charge 4+ which aims at keeping the device cooler while charging, having 30% efficient charging with 15% faster charging when compared with Quick Charge 4 Standard.

Bluetooth 5 now supports aptX and aptx HD Bluetooth codec support for audiophiles. Qualcomm also said that they have added proprietary enhancements to Bluetooth 5 hardware which enables ultra-low power earbuds connectivity with audio broadcast to multiple devices.

Network & AI Upgrades

With Snapdragon 845, Qualcomm’s latest X20 LTE modem also introduces for faster data speed. The new X20 LTE Modem has data speed of 1.2 GBPS downloads and 150 MBPS uploads. The new X20 LTE modem also supports License Assisted Access (LAA) that enables the connectivity with unlicensed spectrum, 4X4 MIMO up to 3 carriers and dual SIM with Dual VoLTE support. For Wifi, there is enhanced 60 GHz 802.11ad Wi-Fi for more multi-gigabit coverage at speeds up to 4.6 Gbps.

With Snapdragon 845, Qualcomm is doing some serious efforts in powering the processor for the machine learning applications. Qualcomm refuses to build any dedicated AI based processor like Apple and Huawei. With better CPU and GPU specs, AI on Snapdragon 845 is 3x better than Snapdragon 835. Snapdragon 845 also introduces third generation Vector DSP with HVX called the Hexagon 685 which is optimized for AI and imaging workloads.
