The Nokia 8 has a 5.3-inch 2K display (2560 x 1440). The phone runs on Android Nougat out of the box and you can expect Nokia O update on the Nokia 8. The interface is pure Stock Android which is a plus point for Nokia.

The specs of Nokia 8 are decent and can be expected from any flagship smartphone. HMD global did nothing with the design of the Nokia 8. The latest trend of the flagship smartphones is changing and companies like Samsung, LG and Apple are doing a lot better with their designs. The slim bezels thing is not even close in the Nokia 8. HMD Global still wants to take risks by sticking to the traditional rectangular bar like smartphone design.
Nokia 8 is entirely made up of metal with 7.3MM thickness which makes the Nokia 8 a slim, beautiful looking smartphone but at this price bracket, consumer needs something extra which Samsung, Apple, and LG are providing.
Nokia 8 Camera
HMD didn’t make any extra efforts in terms of Design and specs but did a pretty good job in terms of the camera. With Carl ZEISS, The Nokia has the good record with the camera on the phone. The Nokia N95 was the first phone that came up with the 5MP rear camera. The Nokia 808 PureView was the first phone that came up with 41 MP camera. So, we can expect something better with Nokia and Carl ZEISS partnership.
The Nokia 8 followed the trend of the Dual camera and thus providing dual 13MP RGB sensor and 13MP Monochrome Carl Zeiss camera sensor. The Nokia 8 camera comes with features like Laser Auto-focus, PDAF, Optical Image Stabilization and dual tone LED flash. There is a 13MP front facing the camera with f/2.0 aperture, 78.4-degree wide-angle, and PDAF for better selfies.

What’s New in the Nokia 8 Camera?
Nokia also added the “Bothie Mode” in the Nokia 8 Camera interface. With Bothie Mode, you can activate both rear and front camera at the same time to record the videos from both the cameras. This is not a new thing and we witnessed this mode in Samsung and LG phones in the past but what Nokia has done with Nokia 8 is pretty impressive. Using Nokia 8’s Bothie Mode, you can broadcast videos on Facebook and Youtube natively from the Nokia 8 Camera.
What’s more new in the Nokia 8 is the Ozo Audio. Well, in case you are not aware of Ozo, Ozo is a special project of Nokia for integrating 360-degree videos in a smartphone, not just for watching 360-degree videos but to record 360-degree videos in real time. Nokia says Ozo is the most advanced VR filmmaking platform yet. You can read more about Ozo Project on The Verge.
What Nokia did is the integration of Nokia Ozo Audio in Nokia 8. With Ozo Audio, you can record 360-degree audio using Nokia 8. If you are watching Facebook LIVE stream from Nokia 8, you can experience 360-degree audio while using earphones or headphones.
Apart from all that, Nokia 8 has a powerhouse of 3,090mAh non-removable battery which is not that impressive. It also supports Quick Charge 3.0 for fast charging but there is no wireless charging available in Nokia 8. The Nokia 8 comes with Hybrid Card Slot (Nano SIM + Nano SIM or Nano SIM + SDCard). Other connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, NFC, and USB Type-C 3.1 port.
Nokia 8 is priced at EUR 599 which is almost $700 (₹45,000) and will be available in Gloss Blue, Polished Copper, Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, and Steel finishes.
Nokia 8: An Average Flagship
With the above-mentioned info about the new Nokia 8, we can say that Nokia 8 is just an average flagship which is not going to compete in the market competition with such kind of product and pricing. While brands like Samsung, Apple, LG are pushing their R&D department for futuristic design, HMD is not pushing their limits for the design. Samsung has set the bar high with what they have come up with Samsung Galaxy S8. Before Galaxy S8, the infinity display thing is beyond imagination. Apple is also coming up with iPhone 8 or iPhone Edition or whatever it would be and in that case, Nokia 8 will be out from the competition.
But, in India, Nokia has to maintain the legit strategy for pricing. Nokia 8 can be a strict competition to the OnePlus 5 and Honor 8 Pro. If Nokia wants to maintain their market in India, the price should be less than 40K otherwise, Apple and Samsung have better products in the price bracket.
