iPhone, iPhone and iPhone. People around the world went crazy every time Apple announces Apple Event for September. Then came the leaks on Social Media, big publications, Blogs which creates a hype for new iPhone every year. It was already out that Apple is going to launch 3 iPhones this year and that is iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. Let’s just don’t talk about iPhone 8 & 8 Plus because there is nothing to talk about that.
In brief, iPhone 8 & 8 Plus are exactly the same iPhone 7 & 7 Plus which now comes with Glass and Aluminium body having so called All New Sensors (What does that even mean). Additional features that are missing in iPhone 7 & 7 Plus are Wireless Charging, Fast charging, Bluetooth 5.0 (iPhone 7 has Bluetooth 4.2), Cameras calibrated for AR, A11 Bionic Chip (iPhone 7 has A10 Fusion Chip), Portrait lightning (only on iPhone 8 Plus).
Apart from that, there is no difference between iPhone 7, 7 Plus & iPhone 8, 8 Plus.
Apple said in the event that, iPhone X is the most advanced and best iPhone ever made which is quite obvious as there is no rivalry who is manufacturing iOS based smartphone other than Apple. iPhone X is indeed a beautiful looking smartphone with an edge to edge OLED display and the Stainless steel and Glass body but it is not the only phone which deserves that place.
We already have Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8. Note 8 is a beautifully crafted Flagship Android Smartphone from Samsung which was launched in August 2017. Both the smartphones are from the houses of biggest tech giants on the planet earth and both the smartphones have the best hardware but which is best for you?

Here we are going to discuss almost everything about iPhone X and Note 8 and will find out who is going to dominate?
The year 2017 was all about the Bezel-less big displays. Samsung sets the benchmark with the launch of Galaxy S8 & S8 Plus where they introduce the world with the beautiful Infinity Display. Later on, Xiaomi also launched the Mi Mix 2 which is another beautiful looking smartphone having a big bezel-less display. Following the trend, now iPhone also came up with a bezel-less display with iPhoneX.
iPhone X has 5.8-inch OLED Display and Apple calls it Super Retina Display having 2436 x 1125 resolution while Galaxy Note 8 has 6.3″ Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD+ resolution (2960 x 1440) with 18:9 Aspect Ratio and. The Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 peak brightness can reach to 1200 nits which are an amazing number for playing HDR videos while iPhone X OLED display reached to just 625 nits. Samsung Galaxy Note 8’s display is going to be 2x better than iPhone X’s while having HDR videos on the screen.
Both the flagships have Body to the screen ratio of 83% which gives you an ultimate experience of a bezel-less smartphone. The Infinity display in Note 8 is curved from both the sides which allow you access the Edge Swipe where you can swipe from the Right edge to get quick access to contacts & Apps. iPhone X comes with True Tone technology where it changes the Temperature and the hue of the display according to surroundings.
The display of the both the phones is the first thing that will catch your eyes. If you like the curvy design of the phone, iPhone X will be going to impress you but if you like Bar like edge screen, Industrial design smartphone, Galaxy Note 8 would be adored by you.
This is the part for nerds who want to know the technical aspect of their phone. Starting with the iPhone X, it has all new A11 Bionic Chip based on a 64-bit architecture which is now more powerful and advanced when compared with the A10 Fusion Chip. Along with A11 Chip, iPhone X is coupled with 3GB RAM and comes with 64GB and 256GB Storage option which like always cannot be expandable. iPhone X runs on iOS 11 which is very conserved in its own ecosystem as compared with Android which is more open and customisable.
Where Note 8 comes with 2 different chipsets according to geographical areas. Galaxy Note 8 comes with Exynos 8895 Chipset & in some countries, it comes with Snapdragon 835 Octa Core processor coupled with 6GB RAM which comes in 64GB, 128GB & 256GB storage variant which can be expandable by using SDCard. For Graphics, Note 8 has Mali-G71 MP20 or Adreno 540 (as per Processor). Note 8 runs on Android 7.1.1 which will get the Android O update on the Samsung’s skin.
Both the smartphones have the most powerful chipset as of now. Apple’s new A11 Bionic chip has two performance cores while 4 high-efficiency cores for processing things like FaceID and AR related processes. Note 8 also has the most powerful Exynos Processor and Snapdragon’s 835 processor which is a most powerful smartphone processors yet. With that, there would be no issue in terms of performance of both the phone.
Here comes the interesting part for many people. Smartphone’s camera is getting better and better. The trend of dual cameras starts when Apple launched iPhone 7 Plus in 2016. The telephoto lens of iPhone 7 Plus gives the beautiful Portrait photos with great depth effect.
This year, iPhone X also has a 12MP Wide Angle & Telephoto camera sensor with f/1.8 & f/2.8 aperture respectively. Apart from that, iPhone X now has a new mode which is called as Portrait Lightning where you can set the light on the face while capturing the portraits. This feature is in beta mode but it will get the full version through a software update.
For selfies, iPhone X comes with 7MP f/2.2 camera sensor and great thing is, you can now capture portrait shots through the front facing camera.
Galaxy Note 8 also comes with 12 MP Wide-Angle and Telephoto camera sensor having f/1.7 and f/2.4 aperture which technically sounds better than the iPhone X but the comparison will be pretty fun. For Selfies, Note 8 has 8MP f/1.7 aperture camera sensor.
Like portrait lighting in iPhone X, Note 8 also has its own camera gimmick to give an extra punch to Portraits. To make the portraits looks even better, you can change the depth effect of the portraits even after clicking the picture.
Security & Ports
It is iPhone 5S that came first with the Touch ID on iPhone that unlocks the phone using your fingerprint. Fingerprint sensor is reliable, fast which is the reason why it gets so much popularity. Nevertheless, the time has been changed now. Apple announced FaceID with the launch of iPhoneX. There is no Home button and finger print sensor on the iPhoneX.
The phone relies on your face to unlock it. The dedicated Illuminator and Dot projector sensor on the phone emits the invisible light with 30,000 face point which is recognized by Neural Engine (a dedicated hardware just to read your face) to unlock the phone.
Apple also said that FaceID works even in the dark. It is still a concern for many people that FaceID is not that reliable. It is not faster than the Fingerprint sensor and that is the matter of concern for many people. It would be an interesting to see the users’ reaction to the faceID once they got their hands on the iPhone X.
On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes with Iris Scanner which scans the Iris of the eye to unlock the phone. Along with that, Note 8 also has a Fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. The Iris Scanner is also a fancy feature and you have to bring the phone at the certain angle to the eyes which sometimes sounds awkward. but thankfully there is a Fingerprint sensor anyway.
With that, there is a security concern in iPhone X as in the event itself while demonstrating FaceID, it failed to read the face of Craig Federighi. You can watch it here.
Now come to the Ports. iPhone X comes with a lightning port for charging and data transfer. There is no 3.5MM Jack in the iPhone X and you have to buy additional adapters to use your favorite earphones with the iPhone. Apart from that, there are Face ID, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer sensors in the iPhone X.

While Note 8 comes with USB Type-C port as well as with 3.5MM Jack. Apart from that, there are a lot of other sensors including Iris scanner, fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, heart rate, SpO2.
Apart from all that regular features, here are some really unique features in both the flagships. iPhone X camera is now ready for Augmented Reality. AR is next generation interface for Apps and Games where you can interact with the real world through your phone. If you ever played Pokemon Go, it would be easy for you to understand but that was just a sneak-peak of AR. Take a look at AR on iPhone:
For the record, Galaxy Note 8 will also get the software update which will make the Note 8 ready for AR through Google’s ARCore.
For Galaxy Note 8, there is better and improved stylus called as S Pen. Using S Pen you can send an Animated text which is pretty impressive and looks really good. Apart from Animated text, there are a lot of other functionality such as off Screen Writing, coloring, Smart Select to capture particular area of the screen as a picture, adding notes, Magnifying and lot more.
Galaxy Note 8 is IP68 certified which makes the phone dust/water proof over 1.5 meter and 30 minutes. While iPhone X is IP67 certified which makes it dust and water resistant up to 1 meter and 30 minutes. Apart from that, both the phones support Wireless charging.
Price & Availability
Now, this is an important part. The Price of iPhone X 64GB ($999 in US) starts from ₹89,000 while the price of 256GB Variant would be somewhere around ₹1,02,000 (ahem ahem) and would be available from 3 November. Whereas the price for Galaxy Note 8 Starts from ₹67,900 and would be available from 21st September in India. You can pre-order the Note 8 on Amazon.
iPhone X or Note 8: Which is for You?
Now comes the main question. Which one is the best for you? We discussed almost everything about the two flagships which can manipulate the buying decision. There is nothing in the iPhone X which can make a big difference while comparing it with Galaxy Note 8. The hardware of both the phones is top notch and unbeatable. Galaxy Note 8 is an elegant and beautiful looking smartphone with a bar like industrial design. Whereas, iPhone comes more from Curves and round edges with a beautiful big display which blends beautifully with Steel and glass.
If you are an iPhone fan then there is no scope for discussing things here, go get your iPhone X. But, if you are a consumer who wants the best out of the money you pay and there is no preference either for the brand or for OS, then Note 8 is an intelligent choice.
